Olumide Kola-Lawal champions education for transformation
Olumide Kola-Lawal believes that education is not just a credential; it is the foundation for the future, the compass that guides leadership, and the vehicle that drives the mission to transform society.
OKL’s life story demonstrates how education, when fully embraced, can open doors, expand horizons, and equip leaders to shape the destiny of nations.
Olumide’s path began with a BA in English Education from the University of Lagos, where he learned that teaching and learning are the bedrock of social progress.
This early grounding instilled in him a belief that knowledge must serve a higher purpose – empowering individuals, building communities, and advancing society.
His academic journey continued with a Certificate in Public Management from Virginia Commonwealth University and a Master’s in International Policy and Practice from George Washington University.
These experiences did more than enrich his intellect; they prepared him to operate seamlessly across diverse political and cultural landscapes, from Africa to the Caribbean, North America, and Europe.
Today, as a Public Sector and Policy Consultant at the World Bank Headquarters in Washington, DC, Olumide brings the power of education into governance and development.
He has advised governments on critical reforms, drawing on his expertise to craft solutions that reflect both local realities and global best practices. His career spanning the United Nations Development Program, the International Republican Institute, and Nigeria’s National Assembly, demonstrates how education equips leaders to engage, adapt, and deliver results at the highest levels.
Yet Olumide’s commitment to education goes far beyond his personal achievements. Through scholarships and endowed academic prizes at the University of Lagos, he invests in the next generation of thinkers and leaders. His empowerment initiatives for widows and the elderly reflect a deep conviction that education must translate into action – lifting the vulnerable, unlocking opportunity, and creating pathways to dignity.
Olumide’s leadership is also evident in the platforms he has built. As founder of the Nigerian Professionals Network in Washington, DC, he mobilises diaspora resources and connects Nigerian leaders with global partners. His role as a Mandela Washington Fellow and former President of the Fellowship’s Alumni Association in Nigeria highlights his ability to use educational exchange as a form of diplomacy and nation-building.
What sets Olumide apart is his ability to make education a strategic tool—not only for personal growth but also for national branding. He understands that narratives shape nations, and that an investment in knowledge is an investment in credibility, vision, and trust.
In him, education is not confined to the classroom, it is expressed through leadership, advocacy, and the pursuit of transformation.
Olumide Kola-Lawal’s journey is proof that education is more than learning; it is the foundation for leadership, the blueprint for nation-building, and the most powerful vehicle for change. As Nigeria looks to the future, his story offers both inspiration and a model of how education can brand leaders and nations for greatness.
